Sovereign Wise Women Needed

Things are a lot right now. How is your heart? β™‘

As the Epstein files continue to reveal more horror, we are seeing how the corruption of power and greed and dark danger we’ve feared yet have always known about deep down are being exposed in real time. And it's disillusioning, destabilizing, and in some ways vindicating.

There is, and there should be, fallout in the spiritual, personal development, and wellness worlds as we watch gurus (like Deepak Chopra) fall from their pedestals. And it's opening up conversations and confessions and allowing us to take a wider lens to the ugliness that has been going on. It feels like a reckoning or maybe even an overcorrection from the ways I’ve seen spiritual and self-development teachers and organizations turn into a machine to make millions in predatory, manipulative, and harmful ways. I’ve felt almost ashamed of calling myself a coach at times because of the ick of this industry. There is hardly any professional oversight, accountability, or governing bodies, and so abuse of power, fraud, and greed have grown, integrity and trust have suffered, and harm has been caused. I’ve seen it, I’ve felt it, I’ve been harmed by it. And yet, I still believe in the work I do.

I’ve always had the heart of a teacher. And for 18 years as a professional coach, trainer, and facilitator, I’ve devoted myself to learning the skills required with a reverence for self-leadership and empowerment and a sensitivity to the responsibility of the power dynamic and the trust placed in me.

So much of my work has been about unraveling good-girl conditioning. Unlearning the ways we were taught to stay safe and fly under the radar in society.

We’ve discovered, however, that there is no “staying safe.”

The patterns of staying quiet, compliant, pleasing, and “good” never kept us from harm. They just kept women controlled, in service of the patriarchy, while silencing our voices and eroding our self-trust.

Because what is most threatening to those in power? What is terrifying?

An older, wiser, powerful, sovereign, and fully expressed woman.

Which is why our culture has lost connection to our elders and it's magic. It’s why women over 50 are made to feel invisible and irrelevant. And why powerful, wise women are often portrayed in fairy tales as villains, witches, and hags, and described as evil, ugly, and old.

And culturally, this has been ingrained in our subconscious. And industries have profited from our fear and insecurity. Women are desperately trying to look younger, stay smaller, and resemble the sexy maiden rather than embody the powerful queen.  It's time to change that.

What if the sovereign wise woman is the archetype, the it girl,  needed at this moment?

She is the one who sees clearly and identifies what’s really going on. She holds boundaries firmly, yet her heart stays compassionate. She embraces and trusts her knowing beyond her five senses. She knows the power of community care. She uses her voice. She takes her grief and her rage and does not suppress it, bypass it, or get consumed by it. She alchemizes it into creative expression, into communal nurturing, into values-led action.

I watched in awe at what happened in Minnesota. I saw older women determined not to let their neighbors go hungry, and kids got to school. They got organized, braved the elements, used their voices, and distributed aid to their community to ensure people were cared for.  Hells yes.

It’s an interesting time to be alive, isn’t it?

If you believe, as I do, that you signed up to be here on earth right now, then you may also believe there is a role for you to play in this unique time of upheaval and transition.

I’ve been thinking about how there are many roles and many ways to participate depending on what matters to you, your innate strengths, and your current life capacity.

Here are a few I see.

βž” The Advocate uses her voice to speak out and advocate for others. Makes calls. Writes letters. Debates policy.

βž” The Artistuses art as an expression to process emotions and bring joy, enlightenment, beauty, and new perspectives while challenging old ones.

βž” The Protector supports vulnerable people directly in organizations, legal defense, or organizational work.

βž” The Builder creates mutual aid, organizes, and provides community structures. Builds systems of support.

βž” The Steward directs money intentionally. Boycotts.  Practices ethical spending. Understands that where we spend our money and what we financially support matter.

βž” The Weaver cultivates community and connection. Weaves and facilitates friendship, belonging, and emotional safety.

βž” The Healertends nervous systems, trauma, and grief.

βž” The Witness Refuses denial. Keeps truth visible. Shares information. Remembers that we are not all seeing the same story.

I know there are more roles. And I know the world needs more of your particular medicine. So here’s what I’m sitting with and what I invite you to reflect on.

꩜ Where have I given my power away to a guru, a system, an authority, instead of trusting my own sovereignty? Where can I reclaim it?

꩜ Which role feels most aligned with my values and my nervous system right now?

꩜ What’s one way I can alchemize the pain, grief, or anger I have into some intentional action?

The world is ready for more sovereign, wise women who can see clearly, feel deeply, and act from integrity.

And if you are one of the few men who read my emails, thank you.

Thank you for staying in conversations that aren’t always centered on you while recognizing that dismantling unhealthy power structures liberates you, too.

The world also needs men who are not threatened by powerful women but strengthened by them.
