Over the last two weeks, I’ve been sharing a simple but meaningful trio of practices to help us all through these times.
We began with Centering—returning to ourselves before allowing outside noise and energy to enter.
Then moved into Compassion—making the choice to stay open yet boundaried- to discern and not absorb, and to stay tender, even in a hard world.π
And now we arrive at the third piece: Creativity. It's magicπͺ is about reminding us that we are alive.
Many of us, including myself, think of creativity as a way to describe someone who produces something - art, music, painting, writing, singing, dancing, or designing.
I have often said that my personal brand of creativity comes from my cooking and also creating content. AND while those things do require my creativity, sometimes I feel weighed down by the expectations of what I need to produce… for others.
Cooking healthy meals and writing content for my business carries the expectation that people need to LIKE what I create. And that can feel like pressure. Sometimes, it even activates my perfectionism which then fizzles the creativity.
But what if creativity isn’t about the output of something artistic or impressive, but about our orientation to the world around us?
What if creativity can be about how we meet the moment? ποΈ
How can we respond with curiosity instead of defensiveness? How can we stay open when it would be easier to shut down?
Creativity is how we feel more alive and free, instead of operating on autopilot and going through the motions.
Here’s how these three practices fit together.
Centering, Compassion, Creativity.
What happens when we’re centered and compassionate?
We create space. And into that space, something new can start to flow—playfulness, perspective, insight, color, life.π±
We might:
πΆβοΈ Take a walk with no destination
π Taste something new out of curiosity or delight
π Write a poem from a thought you get in the shower
π£οΈ Speak from the heart without an agenda
π‘ Discover a new idea, a new dream, a new solution
π Dance impromptu like no one is watching because you love the song
π Reimagine what’s possible.
When we’re centered in ourselves and rooted in compassion, we stop performing for others and start creating from within.
We become less reactive and more responsive.
Less fearful and more free.
Less constricted and more curious.
And that’s when creativity becomes a practice, not a product. It’s when we let aliveness lead us.
Here are some reflective prompts to explore:
Let this be an invitation back to your aliveness.
Not because the world is easy, but because you are meant for joy, beauty, and wonder even in complexity and uncertainty.
You are creative because you are human.
And you don’t have to do anything extraordinary to prove it.
Centering. Compassion. Creativity.
Each of them is a choice. A direction. A practice.
And you don’t have to master them—you keep returning to them.
