Besides being my half birthday, August 1st is significant to me because it's a day for reflection and release inspired by the Gaelic celebration of Lughnasadh and the more English celebration of Lammas in the Northern Hemisphere.
This is the midpoint between the summer solstice and the fall equinox. The days are hot and dry, and the shadows are longer. It’s the last days of summer before we begin to tip toward fall. It’s a seasonal reminder to soak in the warm weather and sunshine while also celebrating the first harvest of the season. All the work and effort from this year is starting to bear fruit.
As we celebrate our first harvest, we may also come across sadness, frustration, disappointment, and regret over what did not happen. These regrets and disappointments can fester within and drain our energy if we continue to hold onto them.
❤ In your journal or on paper, write down and acknowledge any regrets and disappointments from this year. Feel them.
❤ Ask, “What is the root of the pain or the thought that causes suffering?” The root of the pain is often attached to the stories you tell yourself.
Example: "I’m disappointed that my website still isn’t done. I feel like it’s holding me back, and I feel like my current website isn’t good enough”
❤ Find a new truth that feels more energetically aligned.
Example: My website will be finished when the time is right. I trust that my business and my website will still support me in the meantime.
❤ Complete the ritual with a symbolic action of release of your regrets/disappointments.
Examples: throwing stones into a lake, writing them on strips of paper and burning them, speaking them into the wind, writing them on corn husks, and returning them to the earth.
❤ Clear, cleanse, and ground your energy — you can use sage, essential oils, meditation, breathing, or even taking a bath/shower.
