If you’ve been watching the news or on social media (I am especially talking to my fellow Americans), you undoubtedly have felt A LOT this past week.
You may have wondered if the world has gone mad. I have, and I found comfort in the words of the poet John Roedel. Shout out to Tamera Schmidt, who introduced me to him.
If those words touched your heart, I invite you to act on that opening. I invite you to pause and thoughtfully answer the following questions.
What raw kindness can you offer yourself right now?
What wildly kind act can you do for someone else?
Maybe it’s to check in on a friend who’s struggling. Bring coffee or a meal to someone you love. Donate. Volunteer. Make someone’s day. Offer a smile, a kind word, or encouragement to someone at work, an unhoused person on the corner, or even the customer service rep who you have to call because something went wrong with your order. Send a birthday card or a thank you text. Respond to an email with love, give a rave review, let the other car in with a wave, even when you are in a hurry. Go about your day sprinkling kindness wherever you can. Let’s remember our humanity even when other humans don’t believe what we believe or act the way we act.
When it seems like the world has gone mad, bring kindness and love to your circle of influence.
Start there. It’s something. And it matters.
